About Us

Hi!  I'm Shelly, and I'm the owner of A Women's World. 

I'm a stay-at-home / work-at-home mom.  I stay at home because I want my children to have the benefits I got when my mother stayed at home, but I work at home because I do like to work.

I am the owner of Darker Violet Designs, a web / graphic design and IT Solutions company.  My husband has always been a "computer geek"; in order to understand what he was talking about, I joined the club, too!  We started our company informally in the mid to late 90s; I was currently working in software support, and he in hardware / network support.  Our friends and family were always calling us asking to fix their computers, teach them how to use it, build a new one, make a website...it went on and on and ON!  We finally decided that we should at least try to benefit financially from our knowledge, and, so, Darker Violet Designs was born in 1999.  If it's computer related, we can probably handle it.

After I got pregnant with our son, I decided that it would not be in our family's best interests if I returned to work.  As much as I missed working outside the home, I wanted to be the one to raise our family.  Of course, after a year or so, I got bored of being "just" mom, so I became an Independent Avon Representative.  I've been doing that since September of 2004; I also became a Certified Beauty Advisor.  As much as I love it, my lipstick addiction was seriously cutting into my profits!

So, in February of 2005, I joined Passion Parties.  My first year was good, but not stellar.  I do love the products and the company, and I'm now starting to see a HUGE return on my investments.  Business has been great, but I just can't leave well enough alone!

I joined Cello in a Box because I was looking for a creative way to package hostess gifts, prizes, etc.  I then joined with Bodega Chocolates because, well, who doesn't love chocolate?  It's a great gift, too.  I know what everyone is getting for Christmas!

I own this site, several Yahoo groups related to many topics, plus I run a parenting forum.  What can I say?  I like to keep busy!
